Uptempo Balkan soul in new single ‘Kava’ by Maiiah & Angels Of Libra
New single “Kava” is an uptempo slice of Balkan soul and the latest track to be extracted from Maiiah‘s debut album, which will be released on Oct. 20 and which she recorded together with Angels of Libra. Accompanied by Carsten ‘Erobique‘ Meyer on the organ and in boogaloo party mode, she sings here in Croatian, reflecting the longings and feelings for her family roots.
The spirited singer grew up as a child of guest workers in Düsseldorf, the city of the legendary Unique Club and label of the same name, which meant that soul left its mark on her early on. Her move to Hamburg and the collaboration with producer Dennis Rux and the Angels of Libra have now enabled her to realize her first solo record, a successful combination of to-the-point arrangements with tight horn sections and the spirit of the golden age of soul music.
Maiiah & Angels of Libra have already released four singles together: “No No No (I’m So Broke)“, “Sunshine”, “Obey”, and the cover of Barbara Lynn‘s classic “I’m A Good Woman“, with which they have garnered international airplay and a well-attended club tour in Germany with Nathan Johnston this past spring.
