Hypnotic desert grooves in Danzón El Gato’s first single ‘Ronda’
“Ronda” is the first single from enigmatic Madrid-based collective Danzón El Gato‘s upcoming debut album El Sonido Bastardo, that fuses a kaleidoscope of rhythms and sonic landscapes inspired equally by 1970s library music and golden era hip hop, spiced up with exotic afro-latin-psych grooves.
The creative core of Danzón El Gato is formed by Javier Adán (guitar) and Santiago Rapallo (drums and percussion), two craftsmen of sound, far from the spotlight but always at the forefront.
“Ronda” is the spark that ignited the entire project. At the time, the duo was captivated by the spellbinding sounds of legendary Egyptian artist Umm Kulthum, diving deep into the rich interplay between her music and the North African harmonies that shaped the Andalusian music tradition.
They set out to imagine what might emerge if those timeless influences were fused with the laid-back shimmer of an electric guitar, a rhythm section that flows like a warm desert breeze and a bassline that grooves with effortless cool. The result is a hypnotic, genre-defying soundscape – soulful, subtly psychedelic and irresistibly transportive.
El Sonido Bastardo will be released on LP / Digitally on April 5th 2025 via Lovemonk Records.
