In new single Angels Of Libra team up with Boston rapper Joél Davíd
New single “Concrete Jungle” is the result of the first collaboration between 10-piece retro soul outfit from Hamburg Angels of Libra and American rapper Joél Davíd.
Boston-born, but with roots in New York City and the Caribbean via the Dominican Republic, Joél Davíd’s storytelling approach reflects influences of poeticism, reggae and classic hip hop from the likes of the Wu Tang Clan, A Tribe Called Quest or Gangstarr (DJ Premier & Boston’s very own Guru).
In this first single with Angels Of Libra, Joél Davíd lyrically evokes the emotions provoked by the systemic oppression of classism and racism. Truly abstract yet blatant corruption in our society instigates aggressive discontent – an undertone noticeable with Angels of Libra’s edgy rhythm section, funky guitar sweeps, and downbeat bass – in perfect accompaniment to Joél’s raspy cadence and vocal delivery; a testament to the things making the world go ‘round.
