Martín Buscaglia and Julieta Rada team up in ‘Hablando de Roma’

“Hablando de Roma” is a sizzling samba-funk jam spiced up with candombe rhythms and an 808. Like the best nights out, this track came together without a plan. The story behind it? Two good friends—Julieta Rada and Martín Buscaglia, two of Uruguay’s most gifted musicians and proud heirs of a rich artistic lineage—sat down for a casual tea one morning, and before they knew it, they had crafted a sun-soaked groove that’s impossible to resist. A tune born from friendship, laughter, and a bit of serendipity.

Some things happen just because they had to happen. Unplanned, almost unintentionally, something takes shape and suddenly it seems like it was always there. Such is the case with this song. An idea takes shape, words are played with, melodies are tamed and, suddenly, there is a song about love. But it’s not romantic love, it’s love as a burst of euphoria, a lightning bolt that pierces you, shakes you, and everything fits together for a perfect instant. There are no promises, no endings, just a flash of pure joy that leaves you vibrating. Love like a sunny afternoon after days without seeing the sky. And all that moves to the rhythm of samba soul with the scent of candombe.

The protagonists of this story are both greatly talented, so it’s not surprising that such a great song came out when they got together, without much ceremony. It was all done by the two of them, with the percussion of Coby Acosta and the transoceanic mix of Campi Campón.

Uruguayan musician, composer and producer Martín Buscaglia is one of the key figures in the contemporary music scene of the Southern Cone, a sound alchemist who operates across Latin psychedelia, tropical funk, pop, electronic music and candombe. With a solid career since the late 90s, he has gained international recognition with his records and his vibrant live performances, both solo and with his band the Bochamakers.

Julieta Rada began her career at the age of 16. The daughter of one of Uruguay’s most important musicians, Rubén Rada, Julieta grew up surrounded by music and among great artists. Since 2012 she has released four albums, including 2024’s recent Candombe. Her work has been recognized by the Gardel Awards and the Graffiti Awards, and in 2015 she was nominated for a Grammy Award as Best New Artist. She has collaborated with many musicians, among them Fito Paez, Hugo Fattoruso, Illya Kuriaki and the Valderramas, Ciro y los Persas, Charly García, La Vela Puerca and Joss Stone. In 2023 she took part as a vocal coach, along with her father, in the television show La Voz Kids Uruguay.
