New single & video ‘Sonorissima Bay’ by mondo jazz band Les Hommes
Cult mondo jazz experimenters Les Hommes are back on the scene with new single and video “Sonorissima Bay”, from their forthcoming long player Sì, così, scheduled for release on October 111th on LP and digitally.
The VHS film for “Sonorissima Bay”, styled as a kind of esoteric reportage, showcases Les Hommes‘ appreciation of trance-inducing, high-voltage organ oscillations – the dusty circuits punctuated by meandering and melodic electric piano figures that echo and shimmer. Resonant conga, woody-yet-funky electric bass, and the big tenor clarinet come together for a groove that reaches into ‘further out’ and into the aural nebula.
Borne from the late ‘90s jazz and lounge scene in London, with compositions centred around a very dusty Lowrey electric organ, drums, conga and percussion, Les Hommes combine mid-century-cool small- group moods with contemporary arrangements and sound-sources. Reaching cult status with their global super-smash single and paean to lounge “Intraspettro” and the hugely popular LP Les Hommes on Schema Records, and jazzy grjazzy in the U.S., the outfit has established themselves within a unique niche in the jazz n’ groove panorama.
