Joel Sarakula teams up with Shawn Lee in ‘I’ll Get By Without You’
“I’ll Get By Without You” is the first single lifted from Joel Sarakula‘s forthcoming album Soft Focus and it’s a bittersweet breeze floating down a west coast highway. Produced by Shawn Lee (Young Fun Silver Fox / Joel Culpepper / Asha Puthli) and featuring Shawn on drums, guitars and backing vocals, “I’ll Get By Without You” is the culmination of Sarakula‘s adventures in soulful soft-rock and his defining statement in the genre.
Underpinned by Sarakula‘s lyrical Fender Rhodes electric piano performance and with sparsely elegant guitar flourishes from Shawn Lee, Sarakula sings about love won and lost, missed opportunities and new beginnings with the words “I’ll get by without you, will you get by without me? For the moment we’re through but think of what will be”. While comparisons will be made with contemporary projects like Shawn Lee‘s Young Gun Silver Fox, Drugdealer and Prep, echoes of yacht rock icons Ned Doheny and Michael Franks also ripple gently through the track.
