The Hamburg Spinners release third album ‘Im Schwarzwald’
The Hamburg Spinners are back!
Im Schwarzwald (“in the Black Forest”) is the third album by mod-jazz quartet Hamburg Spinners, composed of Carsten Meyer on organ, Dennis Rux on guitar, David Nesselhauf on bass and Lucas Kochbeck on drums.
Im Schwarzwald was recorded live in January 2024 at the legendary MPS studios in Villingen-Schwenningen to capture the band’s sound 1:1, with only a few shouts and handclaps added afterwards. The songs offer the tried and tested swinging mix of soul, R&B and mod jazz. Meyer‘s soulful organ sound, reminiscent of Booker T. Jones, Ingfried Hoffmann and Georgie Fame, is carried by Rux‘s warm and gripping guitar sound, Nesselhauf‘s dynamic bass playing and Kochbeck‘s precise and tight drumming.
The band was formed by keyboardist and composer Carsten Meyer, known for having written the music for the TV series “Der Tatortreiniger” and for making people dance via his alter ego Erobique. Producer ad guitarist Dennis Rux has his hands in many pies, having recently gone on the road with Tetrao Urogallus, Trashmonkeys, Rhonda and Thee Pounders, and being a founding member of retro soul outfit Angels Of Libra, which also includes drummer Lucas Kochbeck, who also plays in formations such as Diazpora, Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band, The Winston Brothers, and more. And finally, bass player David Nesselhauf, also part of Diazpora, Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band, The Winston Brothers and more, but also releases solo material under his own name.
