‘The Rooster Calls’ on Bahama Soul Club and Josephine Nightingale
German outfit Bahama Soul Club are back with a second taste of their upcoming album, in the form of new single “The Rooster Calls”, a slice of uptempo latin jazz / jazzdance featuring on vocals the grande dame of soul, Josephine Nightingale.
So thoroughly soulful, sincere, full of spirit and definitely unique, Josephine’s voice was the inspiration for this song, which was written especially for her. A brass-heavy burner with a captivating drive based on a dry drum beat, soul-inspired horns and great basslines. A wonderfully confident release full of detail and heart.
Josephine grew up in Coventry and had the privilege of sharing her home with some of the best guys and girls like The Specials, Selecter, Then Beat… A powerful time, a Cov kid from the ghost town. What a legacy. She already appeared on the previous Bahama Soul Club album Bohemia After Dawn.
