UK’s punks of funk Big Boss Man drop new 45 and video ‘Das Freak’
The UK’s ‘punks of funk’ Big Boss Man have been fusing 60s r’n’b, soul, latin, funk and bongo-hammond-fuzz since 1998.
As well as playing hundreds of concerts and festivals across the UK, Europe and beyond, Big Boss Man’s music may sound familiar to you, being regularly played on film and television, including “Come Dine With Me”, “Strictly Come Dancing” and “I Used To Be Famous”, as well as broadcast on BBC Radio, by presenters including Gideon Coe, Cerys Matthews and Craig Charles.
Their track “Party 7” was featured in the international Nike World Football ’06 advert featuring Thierry Henry and Eric Cantana. The entire soundtrack to The Mighty Boosh’s BAFTA nominated short film “Sweet” was provided from tracks taken from the their Humanize album. And their official remix of Modfather Paul Weller‘s single “The Bottle” went straight in to the UK Top 20, and fast became a collector’s item.
The quartet’s explosive live shows are legendary and the band has accompanied them with four studio albums and seven 7″s, as well as appearing in countless compilations.
Their latest single “Das Freak” is an uptempo funk number with brushes of disco and heavy on the breaks, out on limited edition 7 inch, with only 500 copies pressed. It’s lifted from the forthcoming album, Bossin’ Around, due out this March, but the 7” single has a dedicated ‘version’ mix on the b-side, livening up the hippest of discos and dance floors across the land, true to Big Boss Man‘s credo, making what the people call ‘proper’ music.
